David Koresh
David Koresh, born Vernon Hall in 1959, had a lonely and rough childhood. Raised by a 14-year-old mother, David was depressed and once claimed to be raped by a gang of neighborhood boys at the age of eight. At nineteen, Koresh had already memorized the New Testament despite his illiteracy. A born again Christian, Koresh joined the Branch Davidians and changed his name from Vernon to David. Koresh then invented his own church in Texas which gained many followers in several years. In 1993, authorities became aware of his sect believing it to be an unsafe cult. Koresh's make-shift commune was attacked by bullets and then fire. At the end of the attack, 54 adults and 21 children including David Koresh were found dead from the fire.
